Sound of Music – Audition for Local Children and Adults

Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre is hosting open auditions for non-union local children and adults for its upcoming production of “The Sound of Music.”

When: Saturday, May 14th, 2022, 11am – 2pm

Where: Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre

               170 Malin Drive

               Wytheville, VA 24382

Rehearsals Start: May 24th, 2022

Performance Dates: June 10th – July 24th, 2022, Thursday - Sunday matinees and evenings, some Wednesday matinees

If interested in roles not double cast, please do not audition if you do not have full availability for performances. A current performance schedule for The Sound of Music can be found at here. Rehearsals will be scheduled to accommodate children’s school schedules and adult work schedules as needed.



The Von Trapp Children

  • Fredrich – male to play 14 years old

  • Louisa – female to play 13 years old (may be double cast)

  • Kurt – male to play 10 years old (may be double cast)

  • Brigitta – female to play 9 years old (may be double cast)

  • Marta – female to play 7 years old (may be double cast)

  • Gretl – female, the youngest, to play under the age of 7 (may be double cast)

Please Note: The role of Liesl has already been cast


Male and Female Identifying Ensemble Adults for a variety of roles such as nuns, postulants, party guests, festival contestants, and Nazis.  


All roles are paid. Housing is not provided.


Audition Requirements:

Please come with a headshot and resume including any past applicable theatre/performance experience. If you do not have a headshot, a photo will be taken of you at the audition.

All auditionees should prepare a short song. Musical theatre songs in the style of the show are preferred but not required. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. If you do not have sheet music, you may bring your own accompaniment on a mobile device to be played via our speakers. Be prepared to stay as casting may ask auditionees to read from the script.

We are currently casting for our 2022 Season. In addition to accepting direct submissions, we are also "in attendance" for Virtual UPTA 2022.
